Contas Abertas wins the Esso Prize of "Best Contribution to the Press"

The entity Contas Abertas [Open Bills], whose site is hosted at UOL, won the "Best Contribution to the Press" 2007 prize, granted by the Selection Commission of Esso Prize of Journalism.

On December 11th, the other winners of the prize's 52nd edition will be known. In the whole, 25 professionals of some of the main Brazilian newspapers and magazines examined during about a month 1,105 text, photo and graphic creations, concluding with the indication of 35 finalists. Other seven jurors who were part of the two electronic media commissions indicated the three finalists to the Telejournalism prize, after examining 68 works.

Contas Abertas
Contas Abertas is a civilian, non-profit entity, whose aim is to accompany and to disclose the Union's budgetary, financial and accounting performance. It gathers citizens and legal entities, social leaderships, businesspeople, students, journalists, and people interested in knowing and contributing to the improvement of public expenditure.

On its site, one of the entity's main tools, the user has fast access to data on the Union's Budget, to news and analyses on the budgetary execution and links to entities and organs related to public expenditures, such as the Portal of Transparency, the State General Controllership, the Court of Accounts, and Transparency Brazil. One can also consult a "guidebook" with questions and answers that help to understand what is the Budget and how it works.

Since its foundation, on September 19, 2005, the data surveys and analyses of Contas Abertas have been highlighted in UOL homepage and have served as basis for reports in several press organs in Brazil.
